Games for the Imagination

A Little Light Entertainment for a Party or Get Together

A couple of simple games that get the imagination fired up.

Pen and paper for each player and two bowls are required for the first game. The second game also required pen and paper, and lots of imagination.

Lettergories

A little preparation is required in advance for this game.

  • Cut up lots of bits of paper about the size of a credit card.
  • write a different letter of the alphabet on 26 of them.
  • fold the pieces of paper in half and put them in a bowl.
  • on the other pieces of paper have the players write different categories eg items of clothing, sports, countries, musial instruments, cities, brand names, flowers, cars and put them in a separate bowl.
  • equip each player with pen and paper.
  • One player chooses six letters and six categories.
  • The player reads them out to the other players who in turn write the six letters down the left hand side of the paper and the categories across the top.
  • Signal the start of the game.
  • As quickly as possible players have to fill in their grid finding an entry for each chosen category that starts with each of the six chosen lettters. The first person to fill in all the squares on their grid is the winner of that round.
  • Return the letters and categories to the bowls for the next round.

For prize giving, use a lucky dip style, and play as many rounds as there are players, with each player taking turns drawing out the letters and categories.

Baahed from the Room

There is no single winner in this game, rather everyone is winning because of the fun they'll have.

Each player thinks of a silly or funny action - jogging around the coffee table, doing an Elvis impression, taking their socks and shoes off – and writes it on a piece of paper, papers are folded and put in a bowl.

The game begins with the first player drawing a piece of paper from the bowl, handing it to another player and leaving the room. While the player is away, all the other players read what's on the paper and make sure they understand it.

The player comes back into the room and has to guess what the activity is. The catch is that the rest of the players can only answer by "baa-ing" at the player. If the player is way off in his or her guess then there won't be any "baa's" and he or she will be met with silence. However, as he gets closer the baa's will get louder and louder until he has guessed what theaction is, at which point he needs to act out the action.

Then play moves on to the next player, until everyone has had a turn.
